WHY PROTECTION SCREENS MATTER IN SOFTBALL

Softball batting practice puts coaches and pitchers at real risk — a hard-hit line drive back through the box happens in a fraction of a second. A quality protection screen is not optional safety equipment — it is a non-negotiable part of any responsible softball training setup, from backyard cages to competitive facility programs. Cimarron Sports has been building protection screens trusted by coaches, parents, and facility managers since 1995, with frame and netting options that cover every budget and training environment.

STANDARD VS. COMMERCIAL VS. PREMIER — WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?

Cimarron protection screens are available in three build tiers to match different use levels and budgets:

Standard Screens — 1.5" steel frames with #42 netting. A solid, affordable option for backyard batting practice and light recreational use

Commercial Screens — 2" steel frames with #42 or #84 netting and optional wheel kits. Built for daily use in school programs and training facilities with multiple players rotating through practice

Premier Screens — 2" galvanized USA steel frames with commercial #84 netting, large-tire wheel bases for easy mobility, and frame padding options. The industry standard for high-volume professional and collegiate softball training environments — American made in Tulsa, Oklahoma

SOFTBALL PROTECTION SCREEN STYLES

L-Screens

The go-to for pitcher and coach protection during live batting practice. Available in sizes from 7x4 to 7x7 across all three build tiers

Z-Screens

Designed specifically for underhand and overhand pitching, the Z-shape provides full-body coverage without obstructing the delivery. A top choice for facilities running both softball and baseball programs. Available in 7x5

Softball Nets

Feature a built-in gap sized for pitching machine placement or live fastpitch delivery — full screen coverage without blocking the pitch

Fielder Screens

Protect fielders from stray balls during infield drills and multi-station practice. Available in 7x7, 8x8, and 10x10 configurations

Sock Nets

Catch balls behind hitters and during throwing drills. Available across all three build tiers

Replacement Nets

Swap out worn netting without replacing the entire frame. Available in all screen shapes and in both #42 and #84 netting weights

FRAME ACCESSORIES

Every Cimarron protection screen can be upgraded with optional accessories to improve safety and functionality:

• Frame Padding — Foam padding wraps the steel frame to reduce injury risk on contact. Available in 7-foot and 3.5-foot sections for full frame coverage

• Wheel Kits — Universal wheel sets allow screens to be repositioned quickly across turf, concrete, or dirt surfaces without lifting the frame

• Powder Coating (Premier) — Premier frame screens are available with an added powder coat finish for enhanced steel protection and a clean, professional appearance that holds up to heavy outdoor use. Choose your team color!

FUN FACTS

• A regulation fastpitch softball travels from the pitcher's release point to the plate in under half a second — having a properly positioned screen eliminates reaction time as a safety variable entirely

• #84 netting is nearly twice as heavy as #42 netting — the heavier the netting, the more impact it absorbs before transferring force to the frame
